How to Use Jetpack | WordPress Plugins to Improve Your Site

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/jetpack/ One of the most recent updates to WordPress has seen the addition of the Jetpack plugin. Jetpack increases your …

Jetpack is made by Automattic, the official WordPress plugin developer if you will. It does require a WordPress.org account to activate the plugin. This is no problem, as it’s free just like the rest of WordPress.org resources. Having a log in for WordPress.org also gets you access to the WordPress Forum where you can ask a question or reply to posts about various WordPress related topics.

Jetpack is a powerhouse plugin. It’s a content sharing plugin, a gallery plugin, a mobile theme, a shortlink plugin, a contact form plugin, and more. This one plugin can actually replace multiple plugins you now use. Each feature  is a separate module.

But as cool as Jetpack is, there is one little problem…

Every time Automattic releases a new module Jetpack automatically enables it.
Now this might seem like no problem with a casual observation, but it can have some bad side effects. Say you don’t allow comments on your site and it activates a new comment feature automatically for instance. You could get a nasty surprise when you suddenly see comments start to appear.

However, don’t fear. There is a solution for this problem and it works beautifully. The solution is called Manual Control For Jetpack. This WordPress plugin won’t let Jetpack activate new modules. Only you control what is on or off, not Jetpack. Manual control for Jetpack is a free WordPress plugin you can download from within WordPress by searching from the “Add New” plugins page.
